Women’s Wellness

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Healthy aging means feeling your best now and in the future. Hormone replacement therapy can be a key player in feeling like your best self again. At Metro Orthopedics and Sports Therapy, we utilize bio- identical hormones, which means your body acknowledges these hormones as your own, lending to a more organic hormonal reaction and reduces the likelihood of encountering undesirable side effects. Hormone replacement therapy halts and reverses the stereotypical symptoms of hormone disorders such as weight gain, fatigue, hot flashes, low energy, and low libido. While easy to dismiss the symptoms of a hormone disorder as a normal part of aging or a busy lifestyle, testing and treatment can help you feel better and more confident. We will help get your body back in balance by restoring the optimal hormonal environment to experience health, wellness, general feeling of well-being.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) seeks to replace and supplement hormones to stabilize the body’s delicate balance; ultimately restoring health and wellness. Historically, most of what has been readily available pertaining to hormone replacement, including our most common forms of birth control, has been highly synthetic. Synthetic hormones, ultimately created in a laboratory, can potentially become toxic as many cannot be effectively metabolized. Unable to break down synthetic hormones, the resulting ‘build-up’ effect can lead to adverse effects throughout the endocrine system. Bioidentical Hormones offer a significant alternative as they are plant-derived, and thus structurally identical to the hormones the body produces naturally.

What Are BHRT Pellets?

BHRT pellets are custom-compounded hormones that replicate the molecular structure of natural hormones. These pellets are inserted subcutaneously during routine, in-office visits. Typically, following pellet insertion, the process takes between four to six weeks for the bioidentical hormone replacement therapy to take full effect.

What Is the BHRT Pellet Insertion Process Like?

The BHRT pellet insertion process is straightforward and simple. First, the patient will schedule an office visit to have an initial consultation – where a thorough health history will be recorded, and hormone levels will be tested. Based on a comprehensive consultation, along with lab and blood work, the provider will determine if the patient is a candidate for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Custom pellet therapy insertion will then take place either during this appointment or during a streamlined follow-up.

Benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

  • Increased Energy & Enhanced Sleep:Testosterone plays a significant role in sustaining energy, building and maintaining muscle, and fueling the body to perform.
  • Increased Libido:Testosterone is not just the ‘male hormone’ but also the hormone of desire. When testosterone levels decrease, so does a woman’s libido. A carefully administered and comprehensive testosterone therapy plan can revive sexual desire – leading to better orgasms and increased sexual stamina.
  • Increased mood:Low levels of testosterone and other unbalanced hormones are often linked to depression, irritability, and mood swings many women experience around mid-life.
  • Protected Cardiovascular System: Appropriate levels of hormones have been linked to improved cardiovascular health and heart function. Women depend on testosterone to support a strong heart and well-functioning blood vessels that transport oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. Research has also connected adequate testosterone levels to healthy blood cholesterol levels. Hormone therapy can help minimize the plaque build-up associated with high cholesterol that leads to an increased risk of heart attack or stroke.
  • Decreased hot flashes: During menopause, the production of hormones, including estrogen and progesterone, declines over time – believed to me a primary cause of hot flashes. Hormone replacement therapy helps stabilize hormone levels and proven to be very effective in treating hot flashes.
